Taiwan Begins to Tell Its Own Stories
Taiwan is widely known for its outstanding manufacturing capability. From an era of producing consumer goods such as umbrellas, toys, and clothing to one of computer chips and electronics, everything was “Made in Taiwan”. Lately, however, with manufacturing profit margins shrinking and operations migrating to areas with cheaper labor, Taiwan is searching for a new way to regain its economic glory.
Founded over 30 years ago, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has been an active partner of Taiwan manufacturers. ITRI has continuously explored how science and technology can be applied to create economic opportunities. Determined to find new ways to meet the challenges Taiwan is facing, ITRI established Creativity Lab in 2004.
In ITRI Creativity Lab, our mission is to lead the transformation from “Made in Taiwan” to “Created in Taiwan.” We initiate R & D projects targeting real human and social needs, produce inspiring prototypes based on original concepts, and introduce structured training that can be easily adopted and used by companies to boost their organizational creativity. Ultimately, we are here to ensure that creative ideas and technology are applicable in the real world.
Creativity Lab in the Value Chain of Industrial Innovation
In the value chain of industrial innovation, ITRI Creativity Lab is positioned at the very front end to provide insights of the macro environment and human needs, and point out key issues to be addressed to initiate novel R&D projects accordingly. The ability to grasp the essence of front-end innovation sets a right course for the subsequent R&D and pilot runs, and ultimately ensures the development of products and services with economic value.
