Opto-Electronics & Systems Laboratories(OES)
- your high-tech partner

(A revised OES web site-with more information- is under construction.)

The Opto-Electronics and Systems Laboratories (OES) of the Industry Technology Research Institute (ITRI) was founded on July 1, 1987 as the Electro-Optics and Peripherals Development Center, and later became to OES on January 1, 1990. For the past fifteen years, OES has played an enabling role in the development of Taiwan's opto-electronics industry.

With excellent R&D strategies and farsighted vision, OES is becoming a world-class R&D institute
As Taiwan's foremost R&D institute for opto-electronics technology, OES assists the government in formulating mid-and long-term development strategies. By focusing on optical storage, data communications, optical display and color imaging technologies, we established core technology capabilities to support the growth of Taiwan's opto-electronics industry. OES's sustainable growth lies with its continued pursuit of excellence. With the introduction of the ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, OES strives to become a world-class R&D institute, helping Taiwan's opto-electronics industry thrive in the global economy.

Technical and managerial talents - OES's greatest assets
In a knowledge economy era, creativity and innovation are key to future success. The five hundred-plus outstanding staff at OES with years of knowledge and R&D experience lay the foundation for OES's sustainable development. OES provides an open and creative environment that stimulates the full potential of its members, allowing them to excel and to perform their best.

The establishment of consortia, associations,
clubs and alliances extends the depth and breadth of OES services

The close cooperation in R&D among public and private sectors has been a key factor in the economical success in Taiwan. In order to enhance the interaction among government, academia and research institutes, OES has been instrumental in establishing a long list of consortia, associations, clubs and alliances. Thus far the list includes: DVD Club, Secure Digital Memory Club, Digital Imaging Alliance, Digital Imaging Printout Club, Taiwan Optical Communication Industrial Alliance, Semiconductor Lighting Industrial Association, The Optical Engineering Society of the Republic of China, Taiwan Association for Magnetic Technology, and Opto-Electronics Semiconductor Technology Development Association.

Reaching out internationally while keeping our roots in Taiwan
OES fully leverages outside resources to extend its reach abroad and participate international collaborations. Gaining access to international research facilities enriches the technical resources and broadens the research scope, thus enhances the capability of local industry. Our partners include Agilent, the Ioffe Institute, Aixtron, TI, Kodak, MIT, Cambridge University, and the University of Illinois among others.
