Ameba RAN for NTN/TN Convergence Network.
The Ameba RAN for NTN/TN convergence network, a 2024 R&D 100 Awards winner, is a highly flexible solution for diverse communication applications in the pre-6G era. This technology is a software-defined cellular base station that leverages commercial hardware with flexible software configurations. It enables real-time adjustments under an open architecture to meet communication needs across various scenarios. These include wide-area coverage by low-orbit satellites, low-latency communications in smart factories, high-bandwidth applications in smart hospitals, and IoT connectivity of smart farms.
Applications & Benefits
The technology has now entered field verification, with a successful connection established to a geostationary satellite system in a trial with Chunghwa Telecom. This trial has promoted B5G satellite communication services and direct satellite connections for 5G mobile devices. MediaTek has also adopted this technology and worked with international ecosystem partners to conduct field tests, paving the way for commercialization.
