    R&D 100 Awards for Ultrafast Rechargeable Aluminum Battery (URABat)

    Co-developed by Stanford University and ITRI, URABat (Ultrafast Rechargeable Aluminum Battery) uses an aluminum anode, a graphite-structured carbon cathode, and a highly safe ionic liquid electrolyte. It is capable of ramping between 100% and 20% full capacity in two minutes repeatedly for more than 10,000 cycles, while maintaining an exceptional coulombic efficiency (CE) of 98% throughout a cycle life.     R&D 100 Awards for Plasmon-Coupled Organic Light-Emitting Diode, PCOLED

    PCOLED technology solves the problem of short lifespan of the OLED blue light component. It uses a single green light-emitting material to generate red, blue and green light without the use of color filters. In addition, PCOLED can recover energy lost to surface plasmon, effectively tripling the efficiency of blue emission. It can increase the lifespan of OLED displays and lamps up to 300,000 hours, or up to 20-fold. (more)

    PolyE, a new cost-saving reverse osmosis technology for water desalination and filtration, is capable of lowering energy consumption by 30 to 80 percent.
