MMG (Mechanomyogram) Gesture Recognition Technology

The MMG technology developed by ITRI uses a G–sensor or microphone as a measurement sensor to acquire muscle movement data by measuring muscle surface vibration. This technology is not subject to the influence of sunlight, has a long and stable sensing time, and incurs only one–fifth the cost of competing technologies. It can be the optimal technology augmented reality (AR) device applications, for it allows users to intuitively use physical gestures to interact with AR devices by wearing a wrist band that senses the muscle movement of the hands.

It can also be integrated with intelligent wearable interfaces, allowing users to control devices such as automotive electronic products or home appliances even when they cannot press buttons or touch screens with their hands. This technology won the Grand Prize and Design Recognition Award at the 2016 Taiwan OpenStack Application Hackathon and silver Invention Award at the 2016 National Invention and Creation Awards.
