Due to the shortage of powertrain system integrators for electric vehicles in Taiwan and the problems of time and cost involved in integration tests in a real environment, ITRI has established a virtual development platform for vehicle powertrain systems. By integrating software simulation models, expert databases, and in-lab hybrid power dynamometers, the virtual platform replaces the conventional test process that requires a real vehicle, helping shorten the development time by up to 50%. The platform also facilitates industry in developing key electrification modules. In addition, ITRI has established a supply chain for automotive vision-based safety systems and is now one of Asia’s leading suppliers of complete vehicle safety system solutions. At the same time, ITRI has further developed a closed-hatch driving and around-view monitoring system for Taiwanese infantry carrier vehicles to improve national security.
