Dr. Shiao-Shian Yu to Become New ITRI Vice President

ITRI announced on January 31 its Computational Intelligence Technology Center General Director Shiao-Shian Yu to be promoted as Vice President. ITRI hopes Dr. Yu's expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) will hasten the development of AI applications and Big Data analytics throughout the ITRI organization. At the same time, Dr. Yu will pave the way to enhanced digitization among Taiwan's industries.

ITRI Chairman Chih-Kung Lee stated that ITRI is committed to promoting industrial development through its technological advancements, aiming to further strengthen its R&D prowess and talent in AI and Big Data analytics while achieving technology diffusion. President Jonq-Min Liu commented that the appointment of Dr. Yu as ITRI Vice President represents "new development," adding that Yu previously served as Chief Technology Officer at Yam, the world's first search engine, and was involved in groundbreaking research then. ITRI hopes to take advantage of his longstanding competencies to enhance its software proficiencies.

Vice President Yu is currently the General Director of ITRI’s Computational Intelligence Technology Center, and in 2016 he served as the Executive Vice President at Institute for Information Industry as well as Vice President & Director General of its Digital Transformation Institute in 2017, focusing on Big Data, AI, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Service Systems. During his service at ITRI, he has led a team to develop critical technologies in a number of information communications and participate in strategic planning and policy implementation in coordination with other non-profit organizations and ITRI departments, helping to promote the industrialization of AI and Big Data technologies. He also has sought to foster Open Data to drive the development of an information-based economy, in which he played an important role in assisting the government to implement Open Data policies, resulting in Taiwan advancing to the first place in the Global Open Data Index 2015, an annual global benchmark for publication of open government data.

Dr. Yu remarked that "digital transformation" has become an important trend and that digital technology has made an important impact on mankind and industry. In the future, he will continue to promote digital transformation by employing new technologies that will offer comprehensive smart solutions and enhance the value for industry.
