ITRI Showcased Its Technologies at ICT TechDay

Under a trend where technology is constantly transforming, ITRI hosted its third annual “ITRI ICT TechDay” international forum on August 2nd, 2018. The forum touched on topics including ICT industry trends, AIOT and AI trends, and also analyzed the five major technologies of the following: Information Security of IoT, 5G, AI, Smart Finance, and unmanned vehicles. In addition, the forum also showcased many ICT technologies developed from ITRI in hopes of assisting Taiwan’s information and communications industry.

 

Dr. Tzi-Cker Chiueh. ITRI’s Vice President and General Director of Information and Communications Research Laboratories noted that through this forum, he expects Taiwan to grow in industrial technology development through new perspectives brought from Silicon Valley of the United States, professionals from Japan as well as analyses from various industry experts. In the meantime, Chiueh shared some cool technologies from ITRI at the forum: Smartphone App Streaming, Program Whitelisting, Open AI Training System, and Reconfigurable Array of Inexpensive Batteries Architecture (RAIBA).

 

Chiueh further points out that the research and development of an open AI training system is crucial towards the industrialization of AI in Taiwan. According to estimations by Merrill Lynch, the global market of the DNN training system will expand from $650 million NTD in 2017 to $7 billion NTD by 2020. Chiueh believes that the server of the AI training system developed in Taiwan has a strong potential in the global market. If Taiwan is able to perform well in both software and hardware technologies, it is expected that Taiwan’s AI training system can increase six times in production value, reaching hundreds of billion dollars.

 

The forum invited Minister Fujii Akihito of KDDI, Japan’s second largest telecom company, as well as Director and Co-founder Ken Tamagawa of the IoT platform provider startup Soracom to discuss about the AIOT Industry Revolution. Moreover, the forum also invited Executive VP Marc Hamilton of the IC design company NVIDIA to provide his insight towards the new global trend of AI.
