ITRI held an inauguration ceremony for the two new leaders of its R&D units.

On October 30th, ITRI held a ceremony to mark the promotion of Dr. Tzong-Ming Lee as Vice President and General Director of Material and Chemical Research Laboratories, and Dr. Wen-Sheng Feng as General Director of Computational Intelligence Technology Center. ITRI expects to leverage the two professionals' expertise and experiences in innovative R&D and industry linking, and professional management capabilities to help Taiwanese industries go through industrial transformation and increase international competitiveness.

ITRI Chairman Chih-Kung Lee expressed that right now global technology industries are in the middle of a paradigm shift which brings forth fierce competition and intense challenges to major industries in Taiwan, including communications, biomedicine, mechanical engineering, electronic materials, and semiconductors. Therefore, it is essential to increase our competitiveness with new technologies, create more innovations, develop high economic value industries, and seek out new developments for Taiwanese industries.

ITRI President Edwin Liu remarked that ITRI uses technology to propel innovation and provides significant support to industries. As we move towards a high value-added innovation economy, ITRI focuses on market demands and looks at how to create new values for industries. Dr. Liu hopes that the two experts can lead their teams with their experiences in interdisciplinary integration and management to quickly link the industries, stimulate industrial transformation, and create blue ocean opportunities.

Dr. Tzong-Ming Lee, the newly appointed Vice President and General Director of Material and Chemical Research Laboratories, acquired his PhD in Chemical Engineering from National Tsing Hua University. He specializes in optoelectronic organic polymer materials and nanocomposites. Dr. Lee's R&D scope at ITRI includes innovative materials and technologies related to electronic and semiconductor packaging, LED, solar energy, biomass material, ICT electronic material, and chemical products. Dr. Lee continues to promote collaborations with industries and academia. He advises over hundreds of material manufacturers and encourages startup companies. In terms of international industry linking, Dr. Lee and his R&D team have collaborated with many manufacturers in Europe, the US, and Japan, successfully promoting Taiwan's innovative materials and technologies to the international market.

Dr. Wen-Sheng Feng, the new General Director of Computational Intelligence Technology Center, obtained his PhD in Computer Science and Information Engineering from National Chiao Tung University. He specializes in multimedia systems, internet telecommunications, wireless radio access technology, big data analysis, and AI. Dr. Feng has headed many large R&D projects and led a cross-disciplinary project which developed a malfunction pre-diagnosis solution for the production line. Dr. Feng also successfully transferred many IP telecommunication software technologies to local manufacturers. In addition, Dr. Feng led a wireless communications project with his R&D team to develop 4G technology capabilities that meet international communications standards, laying a strong foundation for Taiwan's ICT developments.
