Technology Overview
The logistics industry has long been exposed to the problems of driver shortage and long working hours. This, together with the zero-contact economy of the postpandemic era, has increased the adoption of unmanned vehicles in delivery services. ITRI’s self-driving logistics system was specially designed for the road conditions in Taiwan and Asia. This system can work during rainy seasons and in mixed traffic of both cars and scooters. In cooperation with logistics service providers, ITRI has piloted a self-driving warehouse-to-warehouse delivery on open roads, with the total route distance of 1.9 km.
Applications & Benefits
The drive test performed high-efficiency processing of complex pedestrian, vehicle, and road information in a busy urban area and examined the system adaptivity to Taiwan’s unique traffic environment. The system is expected to help the logistics industry become smarter and move towards a new operation service model.
