Software-Defined Augmented Robot Joint (SARJ)

Technology Overview

Software-Defined Augmented Robot Joint (SARJ).
Software-Defined Augmented Robot Joint (SARJ).

Smart manufacturing is a cutting-edge trend in the industrial supply chain worldwide, and AI robots have become an indispensable technology for its development. Under this scope, ITRI has developed the software-defined augmented robot joint (SARJ), a technology that helps collaborative robots to improve their work efficiency. Using this module will increase torque-to-volume ratio by 22% while reducing the robot body weight by 40% compared to others of the same grade. SARJ integrates a high power density electrical drive module allowing the use of a stacking design to quickly customize and build flexible multi-joint modular robots for production lines. In addition, graphical guidance replaces traditional coding development, significantly reducing the implementation time and making operations simpler for new operators. SARJ does not require additional force sensor modules and uses built-in AI algorithms to detect the load level. This module can be expanded to more application fields, opening a new page for collaborative robots.

Applications & Benefits

SARJ won a 2021 R&D 100 Award.
