In response to the increase in size of metal additive manufactured products and the demand for product diversity and mass production, ITRI has built Powder Bed Fusion Metal Additive Manufacturing Equipment for Large Areas (manufacturing space: 500 mm x 500 mm x 500 mm). This equipment uses four lasers for simultaneous fusion to increase manufacturing efficiency. ITRI has adopted an optimal scanning strategy to solve problems caused by interactions among multiple lasers.
Applications & Benefits
Using ITRI–developed laser engine modules, the manufacturing process is no longer subject to a single material or property. Moreover, with a larger scanning area, the production rate has increased fourfold, and could effectively be applied to domestically manufactured key components. This technology can be transferred to industry for equipment development, and can create various applications in the automotive, aerospace, and customized medical device industries.
