ITRI has developed all-digital high-speed active magnetic bearing (AMB) spindle integrated technology, aimed toward application in centrifugal refrigerant compressors. It has established a patent portfolio for hardware and software design, manufacturing and application of the overall technology. The hardware technology includes active radial and axial magnetic bearings, high-sensitivity and high-linearity submicron meter position sensor modules, dual DSP digital controllers, and five-axis all-digital driver circuits. Software technologies include micron-level shaft position calibration, robust control strategy, and an intelligent human-machine monitoring interface. The full load operation has passed ISO-14839-2,-3 requirements for rotor vibratory displacement and controller sensitivity.

Applications & Benefits

ITRI connects the up-, mid-, and downstream domestic mechanical, electrical and electromagnetic industries, making Taiwan the second in the world to independently produce technology and application products for AMB centrifugal water compressors and chillers. The research team received a National Industrial Innovation Award.
