Innovative Heat Exchange Module—Permanent Magnet EC Fan and Aluminum Micro-Channel Heat Exchanger

Technology Overview

Innovative Heat Exchange Module—Permanent Magnet EC Fan and Aluminum Micro-Channel Heat Exchanger.

The EC (Electronically Commutated) fan integrates a high-efficiency permanent magnet motor and a NACA airfoil fan blade. In addition to delivering at least 40% energy savings from the EC motor itself, incorporating it into HVAC systems can further enhance overall system efficiency by 5-11%, helping the equipment achieve energy efficiency ratings above Grade 1. The structure of aluminum Micro-Channel Heat Exchanger (MCHX) must consider the flat tubes, headers and louver fins are formed by brazing. Several advantages include low thermal resistance, large area heat dissipation, small size and light weight for the MCHX. The key technologies include: (1) MCHX performance calculation and design software; (2) Mold development; (3) Domestic supply chain of key components.

Applications & Benefits

The high-efficiency EC fan has overcome key technological bottlenecks, driving industrial upgrades. In collaboration with industry partners, EC motor production lines (Hong Lu Co.) and driver controller production lines (ORIENT SUNTECH CO.) have been established. Additionally, Taiwan's first set of specifications for critical molds used in aluminum microchannel heat exchanger modules has been developed. These components have been applied in domestically produced Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems, air-cooled chillers, residential and commercial inverter air conditioners, cold chain logistics vehicles, electric buses, and Air Handling Units (AHUs) used in industrial buildings and data centers. Technology transfer and services have been provided to key component and system brand manufacturers, including RECHI PRECISION CO., PULITE, Airvex CO., ORIENT SUNTECH CO., Sampo Corporation, and TECO ELECTRIC & MACHINERY CO.
