Fuel Cell Applied Technology

Technology Overview

Fuel Cell Applied Technology.
Fuel Cell Applied Technology.

The integration of technology for enhancing energy efficiency in hybrid power generation is a key trend. In this regard, fuel cell power systems exhibit high energy conversion efficiency and are suitable for integration with renewable energy. ITRI is responsible for the design and fabrication of high-powerdensity fuel cell modules. One of the key technologies involved is using bipolar metallic plates, which permit durability tests for single fuel cell operating up to 5,000 hours and short stacks operating for more than 1,000 hours, to achieve the design.

Applications & Benefits

As a result, its power density can be improved by 50%, the fuel cell stack can be reduced to 1/3 of its original size, and costs can be reduced by 20%. The PEMFC technology, with its ability to increase efficiency, eliminate pollution, and operate solely or be coupled with a power grid, is effective in improving the overall quality and reliability of grids. This fuel cell technology can also be readily applied to future transportation applications.
