Computer-Based Interlocking System for Light Rail.
The construction of railway systems in Taiwan has long been dominated by foreign system providers due to their closed-source proprietary technology and the lack of local engineering capabilities in rail systems. To minimize reliance on foreign sources and maintenance costs, ITRI has focused on the core technologies of railway signaling systems and developed a computer-based interlocking system for light rail. It has assembled an R&D team of engineers from ITRI and many local enterprises who work together to develop rail systems that achieve the highest Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL4) requirements.
Applications & Benefits
As an impartial third party, ITRI has also been assisting in talent cultivation for the development of safety-critical systems, while establishing Taiwan's own R&D capability for railway signaling systems.
