Service Overview & Key Features
ITRI International UAS Certification and Assessment Services.
Green UAS is a certification program developed by the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) to verify the cybersecurity and supply chain trustworthiness of unmanned aircraft systems, serving as a recognized pathway toward the U.S. Department of War's Blue UAS list. ITRI has signed a cooperation agreement with AUVSI and is the first Recognized Assessor for Green UAS established outside the United States, enabling local, in-country assessment for Taiwanese and international drone manufacturers.
Through ITRI's assessment services, companies can proactively evaluate their products' cybersecurity posture, hardware and software component provenance, and overall system trustworthiness against international standards—helping them build the credentials needed to access the U.S. market, government procurement opportunities, and trusted global supply chains.
Eligibility & Assessment Scope
Green UAS assessment is open to drone manufacturers, system integrators, and component suppliers across commercial, industrial, and government/public-use applications, with both domestic and international companies eligible to apply. Products should have reached a stage where a design and functionality has been or is near complete, where a physical UAS system is available for testing—ideally for already in market platforms and close to market design mature platforms—so that cybersecurity and compliance gaps can be identified before release or further operation.
Key assessment areas include:
- Teardown and provenance review: Physical disassembly and inventory of key components (flight controllers, communication modules, storage, sensors) to verify supply chain compliance.
- Cybersecurity penetration testing: Systematic testing of firmware, communication protocols, data transmission/storage, and remote control interfaces to identify vulnerabilities.
- Documentation and governance review: Verification of software bills of materials (SBOM) and required security management documentation.
Application Process, Requirements & Assessment Outcomes
- Consultation and needs assessment
- Formal application via the AUVSI Portal
- Submission of technical documentation and test units
- Review and penetration testing
- Remediation or supplementary submission
- Assessment completion and issuance of report/certification
Formal applications are submitted through AUVSI's official online portal; ITRI assists companies with application preparation and process guidance.
Timelines vary by product complexity, typically ranging as months. Required documents include technical specifications, hardware bill of materials (HBOM), software bill of materials (SBOM), along with a physical UAS platform. Fees are calculated based on assessment scope and workload—can contact ITRI for further discussions.
Upon completion, companies receive Green UAS certification mark, serving as a credential for U.S. market access and trusted supply chains, and forming the basis for future Blue UAS application.
