To tackle the global threat of cancer, ITRI developed the world’s only bionic knobby magnetic beads manufacturing technology iKNOBEADS. The unique knobby magnetic beads can strengthen and reactivate T-cells to fight cancer cells, as proven in tests done at National Taiwan University Hospital.

ITRI’s Portable UVC LED Water Sterilizer System is the world’s first solar-powered flow-water sterilizer for emergency use. It efficiently produces clean water by killing water-borne bacteria with UVC LED technology. Unlike mercury lamp disinfection systems, ITRI’s sterilizer is mercury-free, energy-saving, compact, and durable.

Functional Dyeing Synchronized with CO² Supercritical Technology is a single-bath supercritical fluid dyeing (SFD) process for PET or blended elastic textiles to provide wicking performance. This technology uses supercritical carbon dioxide as the dyeing solvent instead of water, thereby eliminating water consumption and pollution.

Automatic Police UAV Patrol System provides fully automated unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) police patrols. It significantly boosts efficiency, deployment flexibility and surveillance quality for police, minimizing human involvement and risks during regular patrols.

ITRI was honored at 2017 Edison Awards in New York with its URABat technology. URABat, an ultrafast rechargeable aluminum battery, won Silver in the Energy & Sustainability/Power Source category.

ITRI’s Prognostic and Health Management Software in Semiconductors (PHM) uses ensemble learning technology to create a successful fault prognosis system for the semiconductor industry.

ITRI’s Power and Thermal-Aware Electronic System Level Platform (PT-ESL) is an architectural level modeling and simulation solution for efficiently analyzing power consumption, performance bottlenecks, and thermal hotspots of both electronic systems (e.g. board or system product) and semiconductor devices (e.g. IC, System-on-Chip, or System in Package).

CyberEpi is a cyber-physical system that can determine atomic epitaxial processes for optimization of MOCVD machines based on experiment as well as numerical simulation and flow filed visualization analyses into a big data platform.

To cope with these difficulties, ITRI presents BESTAI (Building Energy Simulation Technology with Artificial Intelligence) to allow non-specialists to diagnose buildings and obtain high ROI energy efficiency investment.

ITRI collaborated with National Chiao Tung University and the National Nano Device Laboratories in developing CINmat (Microwave Annealing Technology), aiming to solve the dopant diffusion issue of 12” wafers in the 5 nm semiconductor process and achieve dopant activation in the front end of line (FEOL).

ITRI’s ChemSEI-Linker is an artificial nanoscale solid electrolyte interface of unique composition and structure that stabilizes lithium battery electrodes, increasing battery life by up to 100.

CoolSo is a wearable gesture input device that can be used with VR/AR products to improve user immersive experience. This device applies an innovative principle which recognizes subtle movements of the human body by sensing vibrations in the muscles of the forearm caused by friction between the fasciculus and serosa.

ITRI’s LCD Waste Recycling System is a zero-waste, eco-friendly, and cost-effective total solution for waste LCD panels treatment. It integrates sequential separation, ppb-level purification, and nanopore technologies to recycle liquid crystals, indium, and glass.

ITRI’s iSmartweaR incorporates washable technology and breaks the mold of traditionally uncomfortable smart clothing. It measures physiological signals such as heartbeat and respiratory rate for monitoring the user’s physical activity, sleep quality and emotional state.

ITRI’s long-distance floating multi-screen head-up display technology applies the virtual-optics imaging methodology (VOIM) to project the image at a distance of 2 meters in front of the driver and the butterfly beamsplitter to produce 3 individual displays. This technology avoids fatigue and risks caused by constantly shifting focus, making it a safe way for displaying driving information.

ITRI has developed a lower extremity exoskeleton robot 2WA-EXO, which allows those who are paralyzed from the waist down to stand up and walk again.

Co-developed by Stanford University and ITRI, URABat (Ultrafast Rechargeable Aluminum Battery) uses an aluminum anode, a graphite-structured carbon cathode, and a highly safe ionic liquid electrolyte. It is capable of ramping between 100% and 20% full capacity in two minutes repeatedly for more than 10,000 cycles, while maintaining an exceptional coulombic efficiency (CE) of 98% throughout a cycle life.

TRI’s SpeedPro is a software suite that improves the safety and productivity of machining operations. Through process simulation and optimization, SpeedPro performs prior to actual machining to geometrically simulate material removal and update part geometry; therefore, eliminating machining failures and cycle times.

Thomson Reuters presented the 2015 Top 100 Global Innovators award to ITRI on January 26, 2015, making ITRI the first scientific research institution in Taiwan to win this honor. Thomson Reuters recognized that ITRI promotes innovative R&D and exhibits impressive R&D capabilities.

Fluid-Driven Emergency Lighting, a high-illumination LED light driven by hydropower, uses water from firefighters’ water hose nozzles and also from water sprinklers in buildings. With water powering the light mechanism and providing improved visibility in fire conditions, this technology can improve safety during fires and give firefighters enhanced life-saving capabilities.

PolyE, a new cost-saving reverse osmosis technology for water desalination and filtration, is capable of lowering energy consumption by 30 to 80 percent. PolyE, the world’s first commercially viable nanofibrous thin film composite membrane, can desalinate water on a utility scale at a much lower hydraulic pressure than conventional methods and at a lower cost, without compromising the level of filtration.

PCOLED technology solves the problem of short lifespan of the OLED blue light component. It uses a single green light-emitting material to generate red, blue and green light without the use of color filters.

This thin film sensor technology allows people with Essential Tremor to voluntarily control their movements, significantly improving their quality of life. With lower disturbance sensitivity and lower cost, HSTS is an improvement upon the current auxiliary wearable device technologies.

Calcium-Looping technology is integrated by the industrial symbiosis of power plants, cement plants and calcium looping carbon capture processes, is designed for achieving the goals of zero-sorbent cost and no waste sorbent in the carbon capture process and producing green cement products in the cement manufacturing process.

ICTA also successfully employs the in-line thermal resistance testing with the automatic sorting machine with a rate of 12,000 LED units per hour.

One main approach in the effort to reduce our carbon footprint is to switch from the use of fossil fuels to biofuels. With regard to automotive fuels, butanol is much better than ethanol because of its higher energy content.

A 2013 R&D 100 Awards winner, ITRI's FluxMerge™ is a technology used to improve the operating efficiency of electric machines such as motors and generators. It works on the principle of merging the magnetic flux across an air gap that separates the rotor and stator elements of the machine.

ITRI’s iAT (i-Touch-in-Air) Technology™ provides a seamless input interface for see-through displays of wearable devices such as smart glasses.

The development of lignin-based polymer is intended to initiate the replacement of some petroleum-based plastics, which have been considered harmful to our health and the environment. Lignin is available from wood as a raw material in LBP technology. Lignoxy epoxy and a group of bio-polymer products including polyurethane and polyester are LBP's first BPA-free plastic products.

The Light & Light™ A19 LED Bulb was developed as the world's first all-plastic and omnidirectional bulb delivering a 300 degree illumination angle. The advantages include being unbreakable, light-weight, high efficacy of 100lm/W, energy saving of 85% and cost efficiency that can fully replace traditional 60W incandescent lamps.

TEMM, thermoelectric material and module technology, is capable of generating electricity by means of temperature difference without any intermediate or motional parts.

Transparent conductive oxide (TCO) coatings can be applied to touch panels, solar cells, buildings, and smart windows. ITRI’s atmospheric environment plasma (aePlasma™) coating technology provides various thin-film coating processes, including TCO, in low-temperature (<150°C) and open-air environment.

ITRI has emerged triumphantly from among more than 600 first-class competitors across the world and won two first prizes with Spray IT and i2R e-Paper in the environment category and materials and basic science and technology category. This is the first time that Taiwan has won the Wall Street Journal award three years in a row.

The Angel Business Communications Ltd. of the UK published the award winners of the Solar Industry Awards (SIA) in 2011. ITRI is awarded as an Excellent Organization for its Green Energy Antenna Technology in fierce competition among 2000 entries. This is a remarkable achievement in solar energy technology R&D.

ITRI has won this award three years in a row with its outstanding, innovative R&D. This year, ITRI was awarded for two eco-friendly technologies, namely, the rewritable i2R e-Paper and a new type of polarizer protective film, HyTAC. This ranked ITRI with the internationally reputed Intel, Dell, 3M, and Hitachi award winners of R&D 100 Awards.

This is the first time that Taiwan has won two major international awards, the WSJ Technology Innovation Award and the R&D 100 Award, for a single technology. ITRI also received a runner-up award in the semiconductor category for its MDPS (Micro-Deformable Piezoresistive Sensor) technology.

This is the third consecutive year that ITRI has received this honor, with a total of three awards for its fire-resistant material REDDEX, its 3D display technology with integral 2D and 3D i2/3DW, and it’s Flexible Universal Plane for Displays FlexUPD.

We provide a custom-made high power source with our proprietary high safety Li-ion battery material-STOBA®. The STOBA®-inside battery is much superior to other high-safety batteries, which already passes stringent nail test and can lower heat generation from battery material tremendously.

ITRI accepted the 2009 Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award in Consumer Electronics for its FleXpeaker™ paper-thin flexible speaker technology. This breakthrough will allow consumer electronic products of the future to become even lighter and slimmer.

ITRI was awarded a Red Dot Design Award for its Flexio Radio. The main innovation inside is a flexible speaker and solar cell. One side is the speaker, and the other side is the solar cell. All this technology makes it light, cheap, and stylish.

AC LED technology was awarded for its innovative on-chip AC operation and 3D insertion and removal type cooling. This technology allows AC to directly drive the LED chip for lighting without the need for a DC-to-AC adaptor, thus saving the 15%–30% power consumption that is normally lost during the conversion.
