Technology Overview
The system utilizes OCT light signals to provide surgeons with visual guidance of the implant path during the intraoperative brain surgery.
To address the challenges in identifying precise implantation sites within the brain for Parkinson’s disease treatment, ITRI has developed a pioneering intraoperative brain surgery navigation system based on needle type optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology. This system utilizes OCT light signals to provide surgeons with visual guidance of the implant path during the surgery, complementing the auditory cues. By integrating a dual-layer steel tube design and a minimized optical probe with a diameter of merely 0.63 mm, this solution achieves precise positioning to reduce the quantity of punctures and minimize tissue damage, shortening operation time. These advantages ultimately enhance treatment efficacy without altering surgeons’ clinically used procedures.
