ITRI has developed innovative ionic solution hydrolysis technology which converts varied lignocellulosic feedstock into sugars under mild conditions. The quality and price of cellulosic sugar are not only able to compete with molasses but also provide further supply to downstream applications.

An industrial cooperative project was launched to establish the first lignocellulose fractionation pilot plant in Malaysia. This pilot plant can use abundant local biomass to produce cellulosic sugar for further sugar applications. The bio-refinery industry chain can thus look forward to expanding its business into the Southeast Asia market.
