ChemSEI-Linker is a nano-scale thin film that can uniformly cover the surface of cathode materials and aims to extend the cycle life of a lithium battery. It can slow down the degradation of cathode materials in the charge cycle, thereby extending overall cycle life and maximizing the range of working battery voltage. For example, NCA cathode materials used by Tesla have improved battery cycle life by 70% and slowed down the increase in battery internal resistance. ChemSEI-Linker has been introduced to the globally standardized automotive battery, or VDA battery, having passed several safety standards tests, particularly nail penetration testing done to simulate internal short-circuiting.

Applications & Benefits

With its matching technology, the cycle life of a traditional VDA battery can be further extended to over 4,000 charges, which is twice the number of an original VDA battery. The technology has been transferred to Pilot Battery Co., Ltd. The technology also received a 2017 R&D 100 Award, which helps to promote its applications in the lithium battery market.
