Technology Overview
To reduce CO2 emissions in heat treatment processes, ITRI cooperated with the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre to develop an AI digital carbon reduction technology. Utilizing smart scheduling technology, this solution helps sites with various types of heating furnaces to reduce the energy consumption caused by excessive heating and cooling changes. Without upgrading the equipment, this digital heat treatment and carbon emission reduction technology can reduce carbon emissions by more than 5% while maintaining or even elevating productivity.
Applications & Benefits
The technology is estimated to lower electricity consumption by 5%, which is equivalent to indirectly reducing CO2e emissions by 480 metric tons per year. Based on an annual electricity consumption of over 1 billion kWh by the Taiwan heat treatment industry, the technology is expected to cut carbon emissions by 25,000 tons.
