Technology Overview
Hydrogen with low carbon emissions can be produced via electrolysis powered by renewable energy. The Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) Electrolyzer combines the advantages of traditional AE and PEM technology, including high efficiency, a compact footprint, and low cost. ITRI's design of a zero-gap stack facilitates self-pressurized hydrogen production, thereby reducing the power consumption associated with hydrogen compression.
Applications & Benefits
This technology offers a solution that can maximize the utilization rate of renewable energy by storing surplus energy and mitigate the fluctuating issue associated with large-scale renewable sources. ITRI's electrolyzer design allows for the direct output of pressurized hydrogen, improving energy conversion efficiency to 70-80%, and promoting green hydrogen production. The low-carbon hydrogen produced can be transferred to various application sectors, supporting net-zero goals and corporate carbon reduction. Industries that require hydrogen as a feedstock can implement an on-site hydrogen production model, providing flexibility and enabling the replacement of gray hydrogen with green hydrogen, thereby contributing to carbon reduction efforts.
