Sixteen leading RTOs announced the RIN Joint Statement.

To link more closely with international Research & Technology Organisations (RTOs), ITRI participated in the 3rd RIN (RTOs International Network) Business Meeting on March 10, 2021. The online roundtable meeting was co-chaired by ITRI Executive Vice President Pei-Zen Chang, and concluded a RIN Joint Statement supported by EARTO (European Association of Research & Technology Organisations) to note the importance of strengthening international collaboration on research, development and innovation (RD&I) in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The joint statement was announced by 16 leading RTOs globally including A*STAR - Agency for Science Technology and Research (Singapore), CSIRO - Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (Australia), Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (Germany), ITRI (Taiwan), NRC - National Research Council of Canada (Canada), and TNO (The Netherlands). The statement emphasizes the significant role of RTOs and their contribution to alleviating the health crisis and socio-economic impact caused by the pandemic. For instance, RTOs have been working on supporting healthcare capabilities, upgrading national manufacturing capabilities of strategic importance, and developing new solutions to testing, diagnosis, treatments, and vaccines. RTOs are decisive vehicles that can facilitate cooperation, mobilize national RD&I ecosystems and leverage international collaboration platforms (e.g. EUREKA and Horizon Europe). Moreover, networks such as RIN facilitate the exchange of experiences and best practices worldwide.

ITRI joined EARTO in 2003 as the first non-EU member. It plays a key actor in building the networking platform RIN, which engages more RTOs from outside the Europe. With Dr. Chang serving as the RIN Co-chair, ITRI has been active in reinforcing the link with global innovative partners while showcasing Taiwan’s technological prowess and its efforts in addressing societal challenges. The Institute also hopes this will help connect Taiwan’s industries to the global market. Being part of the group of the leading RTOs, ITRI is honored to join hands with other RIN members to move forward together to support economic recovery and contribute to the future of RD&I.
