Robust 5G mmWave Distributed Antenna System (DAS)

Technology Overview

Robust 5G mmWave Distributed Antenna System (DAS).
Robust 5G mmWave Distributed Antenna System (DAS).

Intelligent manufacturing, AI, IoT, and metaverse have propelled the development of 5G mmWave communications.

ITRI has developed the Low-Temperature Co-Fired Ceramic (LTCC) field verification platform and high precision material process integration technology.

This technology offers three merits:
First, easy radio frequency front-end integration. This total solution has integrated materials, processes, designs, and measurements for mmWave communications.

Second, high signal stability. The material is stable in the high-frequency range up to 100 GHz. It also shows superior environmental durability.

Lastly, high-level circuit integration. It can be used as an integrated module or applied to discrete components and 3D circuit structure packages.

Using this technology, ITRI has developed the Robust 5G mmWave Distributed Antenna System. This system passed stringent tests and has low internal transmission loss of signals, demonstrating great communication quality.

Application and Benefit

This technology can accelerate the product development of RFIC and mmWave antenna integrated modules, facilitate backend manufacturers’ firmware architecture design, and thus shorten the time to market of mmWave products. This will in turn generate new applications for the global telecommunication industry.

GreenTape™ 9KC LTCC and Ag Metallization for mmWave 5G Wireless Devices developed by ITRI and Dupont MCM won an R&D 100 Award in 2022.
