Technology Overview
This low-silicon aluminum alloy additive manufacturing provides a solution to counter silicon pollution and surface oxidation risks for using the alloy. ITRI has developed the AM technology combining 500-degree preheating and AI search through the multidisciplinary parameters space and design of alloys. It effectively addresses the difficulties of aluminum alloys additive manufacturing and process optimization, eliminating the time- and cost-consuming trial and error approach. A tensile strength of 350 Mpa has been demonstrated for the newly-designed alloy, close to the strength of the more commonly-used AL 6000-series alloys, with in-situ tempering.
Applications & Benefits
The new approach in joint AM process and material development is expected to reduce the cost and time required by 50% and 75%, respectively, for similar endeavors.
