Dr. Georgi Dyankov
Research Scientist
Hometown: Plovdiv, Bulgaria
My field is optics. Now I'm engaged in optical measurement and optical inspection, developing methods of measurement for specific application. The research is applied oriented and I really enjoy finding application of my theoretical and experimental skills.
The close contact with industry creates dynamic and creative research atmosphere. For me it is very important that ITRI philosophy combines applied-oriented research and some academic freedom. The pleasant working environment permits you to implement your new ideas.
I've lived in Taiwan for several years. People in Taiwan are very friendly, outgoing and smiling. The communication can be really of full value if it is in Chinese. Few hours per week spent on learning Chinese creates a comfortable feeling in our everyday life. It is hard but it is worth it. That is important also for our professional life improving ability for successful participation in discussions.
Taiwan is really beautiful isle. The infrastructure is very good and from Hsinchu it is easy to go everyplace. The spectacular mountain scenery is easy accessible. Just after few hours driving from Hsinchu you can enjoy the silent grandeur of the nature.
Drawbacks..? Maybe the food! I really miss the cheese, yogurt, good dark bread. But only the paradise is the perfect place.
Note: Dr. Dyankov left ITRI in 2009 and is currently on the faculty of the University of Plovdiv.
